The appreciation and understanding of fine arts - music, literature, theater, painting, sculpture, graphic arts, fine art photography is very important to the development of a director (or filmmaker). Gloss and posh wont do it. Angst or technical baravado wont either. Ultimately, the significance of your work depends on the the depth of your perspective and how much you have understood humanity through art..and living of course.
